Work on the Île Bélair bridge
The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable would like to inform the public that the project to rebuild the Île Bélair bridge (Route 117) in Rosemère will begin a new phase of work on November 11. Construction of the west section of the bridge is now complete, and its lanes will be open to traffic, while the east section will be closed to demolish the old structure and install the new bridge components.
As a result, traffic will be diverted onto the new section of the bridge, lifting the load restriction for 5-tonne vehicles.
The work will continue until summer 2025. Ultimately, the new bridge will feature two traffic lanes in each direction, as well as a multi-use path on the east side connected to the municipal network, to provide users with a safe active transportation link.
Traffic management
This second phase of work will result in the following traffic disruptions:
From November 11 to spring 2025:
- Closure of the northbound direction of Route 117 (Labelle Blvd.), on the Île Bélair bridge, with traffic diverted onto the opposite carriageway, leaving one lane per direction.
- Reopening of the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the bridge (west side).
- The 5-ton load restriction for all vehicles on this bridge is now lifted.
During this period, episodes of congestion are to be expected. The Ministère advises road users who will have to travel in the area to allow extra time to reach their destination.
Please take note that on November 10, between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., there will be a one-way closure on Labelle boulevard, between Thorncliffe and de l'Île-Bélair Ouest.
Traffic will alternate on one lane.
