Rosemère awarded 5 Silver Blooms
ROSEMÈRE, Wednesday, November 2, 2016– On October 29 last, the Town
of Rosemère was honoured with 5 Silver Blooms as well as a special mention for
"Riverbank Enhancement” at the National and International Awards Ceremony capping
the 2016 edition of the "Communities in Bloom”, which was held in Regina,
Saskatchewan. The Town of Rosemère went up against five other municipalities in
the International Challenge (Large) category: Fairhope, Alabama USA; Lambton
Shores, ON Canada; Letterkenny, Co Donegal Ireland; Morro Bay, California USA & Omagh Town, Fermanagh & Omagh
District, Northern Ireland, UK.
During the summer, volunteer
judges crisscrossed the streets of Rosemère to evaluate the town according to
very specific criteria such as: tidiness,
environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and
floral displays. "Rosemère’s residents can rightfully be proud of the results
of this 2016 edition, since they contribute to the beautification of Rosemère’s
enchanting and attractive environment,” noted mayor Madeleine Leduc. In fact, during their visit, the volunteer judges
were impressed by the Town’s many efforts to preserve its country charm. "The
natural wooded areas along the shoreline were enriched with black maples, a
rare species in Québec. The rich natural habitats along the Mille-Îles River
and Dog River were developed to allow for the observation and interpretation of
the areas’ flora and wildlife,” they noted in their evaluation report.
Given the current context of
climate change and environmental concerns, municipalities participating in the
"Communities in Bloom” competition can take pride in their efforts, which bring
concrete and significant solutions to environmental issues for the benefit of society
as a whole.
Communities in Bloom is a
Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride,
environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement
and the challenge of a national program, with focus on enhancing green spaces
in communities.
