4th edition of the Rosemère International Caricature Biennial

A nod to Montréal’s 375th anniversary under the chairmanship of Serge Chapleau

Rosemère, May 15, 2017 – The Town of Rosemère is pleased to announce that the 4th edition of its traditional International Caricature Biennial (RICB) will be held from June 2 to 4. With Montréal’s 375th anniversary as its theme, this event will unfold under the honorary chairmanship of Serge Chapleau, renowned Québec editorial cartoonist at La Presse.

The Biennial initiated by municipal councillor Normand Corriveau seeks to share the world of caricature art through exhibitions and activities for the entire family and will be held at Rosemère’s municipal library. Given this edition’s theme and as a nod to Montréal’s 375th  anniversary, participating caricaturists will be presenting works with a metropolitan flavour showcasing events and personalities that left their mark on its history.

"Caricature is a symbol of freedom of expression and democracy, which is why we wish to make it as accessible as possible to all age groups in our society. It is in this spirit that school visits within the framework of the RICB have been organized for young Rosemerites. We are extremely proud of bringing this unique rallying event back again,” stated Madeleine Leduc, mayor of Rosemère.

Program

Participants will get to admire exhibitions of caricatures and editorial cartoons produced by caricaturists from every corner of Québec. They will also get to attend live caricature workshops as well as various conferences and round tables on this topic. The international facet of the event will take the form of a projection of caricatures of US President Donald J. Trump produced by different artists around the world.

Throughout the weekend, participants will be able to visit the exhibition on the history of Montreal, presented by the McCord Museum, partner of the event for a fourth edition. They will also be able to contemplate works by Serge Chapleau, known for his character Gérard D. Laflaque and, since 1993, his annual publication of collections of his best caricatures. Finally, an exhibition in the atrium will present the works of AISLIN, a caricaturist celebrating his 50th year of career. Beautiful exhibitions not to be missed.
