A new professional studio for Rosemère’s youth

Thanks to the support of the Town of Rosemère, on Monday, February 24, the Studio de la relève proudly inaugurated a new professional studio for Rosemère’s youth and the recording of the 2014 Paroles et musique album.

The event was attended by Christophe Danetz, founder of the Studio de la relève and Madeleine Leduc, mayor of Rosemère, as well as a number of guests from the academic, political, economic and artistic sectors.

It may be recalled that Paroles et musique is a competition, which has been open to students of several of the region’s high schools since 2011. Students are invited to write a poem in class with the best works set to music and performed by the musicians of the Studio de la Relève. Attracting close to 1,000 entries in its first year, this competition has generated tremendous enthusiasm, bringing together more than 3,000 participants in its fourth year of existence.

"This year, we wanted to motivate students more than ever to stay in school and excel, which is why we called on Pierre Bazinet to help our musicians come up with the best songs and produce recordings of professional quality. Thanks to the support of the Town of Rosemère, we obtained premises where Pierre Bazinet and his equipment could work. For this, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Town and its team, which, from the very start, have supported our organization and the move to keep our youngsters in school,” stated Christophe Danetz.

Pierre Bazinet is a Québec music producer who has worked with artists such as Céline Dion, Robert Charlebois, and Bruno Pelletier, to name but a few.  With a number of platinum records to his credit, he has also earned two Félix awards as producer of the year and several nominations at the prestigious ADISQ gala (Québec recording, performing and video industry association).

"I must say that this opportunity to transmit everything I can to these youngsters has been a magnificent experience for me. I already see in them the future talents of Québec and it is my hope that I can bring to them as much as they have brought me. I am also quite touched to see that a municipality like Rosemère is as sensitive to the cause of our youth. I would like to thank the town for helping us carry out this project,” added Mr. Bazinet.

Mayor Madeleine Leduc, meanwhile, expressed considerable satisfaction with the results obtained to date by the Studio de la relève. "Beyond its vision, which seeks to encourage students to stay in school, this project appealed to us by its concerns and values, which coincided with ours,” she noted, before thanking Christophe Danetz and his collaborators.

The 2014 Paroles et musique album will consist of 28 songs, whose lyrics were written by students in their French class and set to music composed by musicians who are members of the Studio de la relève. The songs will be performed as of March at a series of gala events, culminating in a grand finale to be held Thursday, May 22 at Rosemère High School. This event will bring together the authors and composers of the winning songs as well as their families and several guests. The grand prize of the competition, it should be mentioned, is a trip to Mexico in July 2014.

In closing, Christophe Danetz, founder of the Studio de la relève, acknowledged the organization Partenaires pour la réussite éducative dans les Laurentides (Partners for academic success in the Laurentians) better known as PREL, whose invaluable collaboration has driven the growth of the Paroles et musique competition.
