Multi-community awareness campaign: Let’s Work Together to Save Water

The communities of Bois-des-Filion, Lorraine and Rosemère have launched a joint campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of the sustainable use of drinking water. The campaign will target various areas around the home and yard where this precious yet finite resource can be saved, including lawns, gardens, showers and baths.

This initiative is in keeping with the 2019–2025 Quebec strategy to conserve drinking water, which was launched in partnership with Réseau Environnement, the Fédération québécoise des municipalités, the Union des municipalités du Québec, the Ville de Montréal and the Ville de Québec.

This multi-community campaign, the theme of which is “Let’s work together to save water,” shines the spotlight on an issue that affects everyone in Quebec, one of the largest consumers of water in the world. Between now and 2025, all municipalities in the province are expected to reduce the amount of water distributed per capita by 20% compared to the 2015 value. This starts with encouraging every household to be more water wise every day.

“Everyone needs to do their part and change some of their routine habits if we are to achieve our community objectives and safeguard our quality of life,” said Bois-des-Filion Mayor Gilles Blanchette. “It’s for our own good, and for the good of the generations who will come after us.”

“Water is a key issue in the 21st century. It’s up to all of us to be more environmentally responsible and use less water starting now,” said Lorraine Mayor Jean Comtois. “Small steps by individuals and communities alike can lead to big change. So let’s join forces and make it happen!”

“Every bit counts. It’s the sum of our efforts that will make all the difference,” said Rosemère Mayor Eric Westram. “As the saying goes, ‘We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.’ Together, let’s make smarter and more sustainable choices for the future.”
