Invitation Pierrette Vaillant-Pierre: more than 700 participating young athletes
ROSEMÈRE, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 – From January 5 to 7, more than 700 skaters between the ages of 7 and 21 from nine Québec regions, came together at the Rosemère Arena for the 27th edition of the annual “Pierre Vaillant-Pierre Invitational” organized by Skate Rosemère in collaboration with the Town of Rosemère. For the medals ceremony, Mrs. Vaillant-Pierre, a long-time Rosemère resident who has, for more than 30 years, been a dedicated volunteer and defender of figure skating, was accompanied by members of the municipal council and the Town’s mayor, Eric Westram.
Five young skaters from Skate Rosemère were medal winners at this inter-regional competition: Juliette Gauvreau, silver medal in the ”Gold Women Free Program”; Jennifer Kabenian, gold medal in the “Star 7 Women Short Program”; Camille Labelle, silver medal in the “Star 6 Women Free Program“; Isabella Kabenian, gold medal in the “Star 5 Women Free Program”; Tessa Zucco, silver medal in the “Star 6 Women Free Program”.
Eric Westram, mayor of Rosemère, heralds the merits of all who, on the ice or behind the scenes, took part in the 2018 edition: “On behalf of the Town, I congratulate the 714 young skaters from every corner of Québec who competed in this event, allowing us to appreciate their talent. Their discipline and determination are exemplary and we encourage them to pursue their dream. Behind the success of this event is a dedicated, hardworking team consisting, among others, of volunteers with the Skate Rosemère figure skating club, including parents and members of the board of directors as well as the competition’s volunteer president, Patricia Labelle. Thanks are therefore due to the forty or so volunteers who contributed time and energy to ensure the success of this competition.”
It was in 1990 that Pierrette Vaillant-Pierre established this annual inter-regional competition that bears her name, to help raise funds for the Rosemère figure skating club. Any surplus funds raised by this event will help finance the club’s end-of-season show, among others.
