  • New - Recycling of Polystyrene Foam or “Styrofoam” (#6)

The Town of Rosemère is pleased to announce that, in keeping with its commitment to helping reduce waste at the source, polystyrene foam (bearing the #6 recycling symbol) is now being accepted for recycling at the Ecocentre.

Polystyrene foam takes up a lot of room in our garbage bins and landfill sites. Our Ecocentre is now equipped to accept these ‘ugly ducklings’ of the recycling world.

Residents are therefore encouraged to drop off these materials, which will be given a second life in building various kinds of street furniture and other applications.

This new practice applies to only the types of polystyrene foam listed below.

All products must be clean and sorted as indicated on the designated bins at the Ecocentre.

Which polystyrene foam products are now being accepted for recycling?

    Food containers

    • Coffee cups, disposable plates and bowls, meat/fish/poultry trays, egg cartons, etc. (free of food debris).

    Protective packaging materials

    • Box inserts for electronic devices and household appliances, winter plant covers, seedling trays, etc.

    Insulation boards

    • Pink, blue and green insulation boards.

  • PCBs, fireworks or others.

Recycling your refrigerating appliances

If your refrigerating applianceno longer works, don't leave it at the curb. Take it to the ecocentre for proper recycling.

Why recycle? Because a refrigerating appliance generates an average of 1 ton of greenhouse gases. If the appliance is not recycled responsibly, the gases and all the other hazardous materials it contains are not treated and are therefore released into the environment.

GoRecycle, an organization recognized by RECYC-QUÉBEC, will ensure the responsible recycling of the following appliances brought to the eocenter:

  • Appliances with gas and halocarbon foams
  • Refrigerators and freezers larger than 2.5 cu. ft.
  • Wine cellar and coolers
  • Water dispenser
  • Plug-in air conditioner (mobile or window)
  • Dehumidifier

Before you recycle, have you thought about reuse? When the time comes to change your refrigerator, if it is still functional, give it a second life by repairing it or selling it. In addition, many reuse organizations take back appliances to give them a second life. Your donation will help finance their activities and support the social economy in your region.

BICYCLE RECYCLING

The Town has concluded an agreement with the Cyclo Nord-Sud organization for the collection of bicycles and bicycle parts at the ecocenter.

Cyclo Nord-Sud's mission is to recover and recycle unused bicycles for the benefit of vulnerable communities, through various local and international solidarity initiatives. Their aim is to make this means of transport accessible to all on an equitable basis, and to use it as a tool for change and for social and economic development, from an environmental perspective.

Thank you for helping to give your bike a second life!
