Announcing the Winners of the 35th annual Rosemère in Bloom contest

The names of the winners of the 35th edition of the Rosemère in Bloom photography contest were announced at a ceremony held at Memorial Community Centre on October 9. The goal of this initiative is to recognize and honour residents’ efforts to beautify the community through horticulture.

Rosemerites were invited to send in a photograph of their garden or yard for consideration in one of several categories. Here are the top winners in each category:

• Front in Bloom — Residential (tie): 186 Bellerive and 296 Rose-Alma

• Marilyn Proulx Cosy Corner: 296 Rose-Alma

• Environmental Action — Creation of a butterfly haven: 335 De Rosemère

• Vegetable Garden: 464 Northcôte

• Backyard: 268 De Rosemère

• Blossoms: 472 De L’Érablière

• Pollinators in Action on a Plant — New category: 258 Fairfield

• Monarch Preservation — Special judges award: 285 De La Clairière

“Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who took part in this 35th annual contest. We had a record number of submissions this year, with 116 entries in total, close to double last year’s. Residents’ growing interest in this photography contest says a lot about their passion for beautifying their property and improving the environment. For one, a lot of originality went into creating habitats to attract pollinators,” said Mayor Eric Westram.

Judging criteria

A panel of judges made up of members of the Rosemère in Bloom committee reviewed the submissions based on overall appearance, maintenance, diversity, originality, harmony, plant selection and health, environmental cost-benefit, ease of upkeep and sustainability.

Looking back at this summer’s horticultural activities

The ceremony was also an opportunity to report on the results of the very successful Gardening Bazaar and Secret Gardens Tour on July 14. During the Gardening Bazaar, residents had the opportunity to purchase a wide range of plants and second-hand gardening accessories, holiday decorations and furniture. The resulting proceeds combined with the ticket sales for the Secret Gardens Tour came to $3,779, which was directed to the respite care organization Les Petits Plaisirs. Be sure to watch for next year’s edition on July 13, 2025.
